Lippo Inaugurates e-Medical Center at Siloam Hospital Karawaci

The Lippo Group has inaugurated a special e-medical center at its Siloam Hospital in Karawaci, Tangerang, which allows medical data to be transmitted electronically to help specialists reach a diagnosis even if they are not on site.
Lippo has partnered with global electronics giants like Philips and Siemens to build the facility.
“I hope the coordinating minister for welfare and the health minister can support this initiative, by easing import tax [for the necessary medical equipment] so the program can be rolled out [nationwide],” Mochtar Riady, founder and chairman of the Lippo Group, said during the inauguration of the special pavilion on Tuesday.

Indonesia's coordinating welfare minister, Puan Maharani, and Health Minister Nila Moeloek were present at the ceremony, as well as People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Zulkifli Hasan, Banten Governor Rano Karno, Tangerang district head Ahmed Zaki Iskandar and senior Lippo executives.
Siloam Hospitals Group is the branch of the Lippo Group that operates integrated healthcare services and hospitals around the country.
The Jakarta Globe is affiliated with the Lippo Group.
Mochtar said the concept of an e-medical center could help Indonesia diminish the gap in the availability of health services.
Advanced medical facilities are currently are only available in major cities, especially Jakarta.
“I visited Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara several days ago. I saw how hospitals operate with inadequate [facilities],” said Mochtar. "In the past three years I've been thinking about how to help the government to tackle this disparity."
The Lippo Group founder added that in today's digital era, it should be possible to use the expertise of medical specialists even when they are in another location.
Lippo will help make this possible by cooperating with public hospital in remote regions and providing high-tech medical equipment. Information gathered in a remote region where no specialist is immediately available, can then be sent to cities like Jakarta via the Internet, for diagnosis.
